Instant Challenge

Challenge: Use your creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills to build a catapult and launch a duck into a “pond”.

Time: You will have 15 minutes to complete ALL 3 PARTS of this Challenge. Once your team completes a Part of the Challenge, you may immediately move on to the next Part of the Challenge. You must complete Parts 1-3 in order.

Part One: Build a catapult using only craft sticks, rubber bands, a plastic spoon and tape.

Part Two: Decorate a cup to look like pond. You will have paper, glue sticks, markers, and a pair of scissors to help you create your pond design.

Part Three: Use your catapult to launch your duck to land in the pond you created.

Materials:

Part One

• 8 Craft Sticks

• 6 Rubber Bands

• 1 Plastic Spoon

• Tape

Part Two

• 1 Paper or Plastic Cup

• 4 Sheets of Paper

• Markers

• 1 Glue Stick

• Scissors

Part Three

• 1 Rubber Duck

Scoring:

You will receive:

• 4 points (40 points maximum) for each time your duck lands in the pond before time is up.

• 10 points if the duck lands in the pond 3 or more times in a row in one minute (10 points maximum).

• Up to 20 points for the creativity of your team-created catapult.

• Up to 20 points for the creativity of your pond.

• Up to 20 points for how well your team works together.
